Purple Tigers Pitching is Consistent in Gulf Shores

Purple Tiger hitters seen here preparing for action versus West Limestone (AL) in Gulf Shores this week.

Watertown Baseball treks to the Gulf seeking warmer conditions for the season openers.  Much to their dismay, the Purple Tigers faced highs of 40 degrees for much of their Gulf Shores tournament.  The beach was far from their minds as Gulf weather altered the scheduled so that rest and baseball was about all the young men were able to do.  In sloppy conditions, Watertown dropped the opener to Bob Jones (Huntsville, AL) and had their 2nd game of the day rescheduled for Thursday morning.  Tuesday night, another cold breeze cooled the Watertown bats as the Purple Tigers dropped a 3-1 battle in a pitchers dual.  Seth Price picked up the loss even though he struck out 6 and gave up one hit. Wednesday morning came early, but the Purple Tigers had a different bounce in their step as they squared off against the West Limestone Wildcats of Athens, AL.  Lain Hindsley spread 5 hits over 7 innings of work along with 3 inning ending double plays to give the Purple Tigers their first win of the season. Tournament directors asked to move the East Limestone remake to Wednesday night as the Indians held a 3-0 record and could possible see championship play Thursday morning with a win over the Purple Tigers.  Williams, White, and Cozart combined for 4 strikeouts behind 5 Purple Tiger doubles which proved too much for the Indians to handle as Watertown captured the late night victory 7-6.
